Ball Corporation, one of the world's leading suppliers of rigid metal and plastic packaging products and services, has acquired three can manufacturing plants in the United States with associated contracts for $577m, from AB InBev.

The facilities are sited at Rome, Georgia; Columbus, Ohio; and Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin. The acquisition also includes a beverage can end manufacturing plant located in Gainesville, Florida.

Together, the four plants produce about 10bn aluminum cans/year and 10bn can ends/year.

More than two-thirds of the cans are produced for leading soft drink companies and the remainder for AB InBev. The facilities employ about 635 people.
